A123SYSTEMS Inc

by Jeff Torben
(New York, NY)

I am hearing a lot about a company in Boston, MA that has developed new battery technology. This is from their web page: "A123Systems is now one of the world's leading suppliers of high-power lithium ion batteries using our proprietary Nanophosphate™ technology to deliver previously unattainable levels of power, safety and life." If this company is doing so well with the Government needs on propulsion then when do we think they will turn the keys over to the transportation sector and get us off the fossil fuel cancer we all hate to discuss?

I see information from GM, DeWalt, the Military, all showing positive uses of their Nanotechnology breakthrough. If this company has the necessary R&D dollars we may have found the key to our future growth needs from a pure people mover perspective.

I welcome your thoughts. Here is their web site:

A123Systems Updates?
by: Nick

Other than what is on their web site does anyone know of any significant news on A123Systems in MA? I haven't seen anything since last summer and it looked very promising with their alternative energy solutions. I thought GM and others were talking to them about the systems?

A123Systems Timing
by: Phil Tenner in Oakland

We need companies like A123Systems to accelerate their marketing message. I found this company via Planet Berry which (no offense to PB) is not the only place we should be seeing their progress. Oil is in a finite supply state. It will run out eventually. We have an abundance of Salt Water and if we believe the former Vice President (Al Gore) the salt water supply will be rising fast.

Is the answer right in front of us? Is A123Systems going to be the Company that pulls us out of our spiral? If so, I have no clue of course, then we need their financial backers to loosen the grip and get the message out to the States.

Once the States see this technology (as has the White House) then and only then will the trickle down effect begin to take shape. States like California would love to hear more about this!

Anyone from A123Systems available to comment? Post away!

We need you now!

A123Systems Funding Longevity
by: Michael in Detroit

This looks very compelling. A123Systems Inc appears to have completed a very complex research and development effort with nanotechnology and propulsion thus the battery. Im very interested in following this company and have sent emails to their marketing department recently for more data as its an exciting possibility.

To think of a car sustaining 500 miles per gallon with the use of their battery products in a dream come true if it holds up.

What do we know of their funding and ability to really take this to the next level?

A123Systems Funding
by: Robert Tiffton

Im very interested in A123Systems Inc and their overall funding. Their nanotechnology breakthroughs are incredible and could lead to future break throughs in the limitations of battery powered propulsion.

I am going to see how they are using their funding and what sources are deploying the most interest in their long term success. By the nature of their banking partners you can usually tell where these companies are headed.

The auto big three GM,Ford and Chrysler have a big stake in the outcomne of nanotechnology and their overall success in minimizing the size of the battery propulsion design to maximize load capabilitis and recharging lengths.

Very promising and exciting from what little I have read so far. Say goodbye to Oil in our future!

A123Systems Nanotechnology
by: Lisa Tate

This must be THE best kept secret in the area of propulsion via battery technology! Wow, thank you so much for providing this information. Does this company have research abroad? Are they partnering with anyone else in the EMEA or Asai Pac Rim regions?

Seems to me that (from their web site) A123Systems has really developed an interesting process with nanotechnology. If I was the US Gov't I would be having a nice chat with them as this is potentially very strategic if I understand the ramifications of it.

I will take a look again at their web site and see where it takes me. Not a lot on the net (or I am just too green and blind to the search engines) with respect to this break through potential. Very encouraging.

Thanks Planet Berry for this forum!

A123Systems Thank You
by: Carrie Robson

I just read the note on this company. Thank you, Jeff. I see that they are private and are getting good overall funding. Do you work for the company? Is this nanotechnology breakthrough something that is patented and thus only they have access to it?

We need more A123Systems in the world. One thing of curiousity is disposal. What happens with all these propulsion energy sources when they do eventually burn out and can no longer be recharged. Assuming this is the case. Can they recyle the units?

I am going to visit their site some more and learn about this exciting venture.
