The fruit is very low in acidity so many will prepare it with a touch of lime juice which can enhance the flavor while not being too strong where you miss this little gem of a fruit.

Being a tropical fruit but classified as an Asian fruit in the market. Approximately two crops a year between the months of January and early September are harvested. Fruit can be found on the trees most of the year but not in abundance. You must be patient with this exotic fruit as it should be picked when the fruit is very firm or the latex found near the skin may stick to your lips when you bite into the fruit.

Unfortunately this fruit is very fragile and although it has a high level of acceptance to the taste its markets are typically the southern most capital cities. The packing of this fruit for transport is very expensive to protect the skin and thus the fruit from being destroyed in transit.

Like all fruits that are not as well known in the western world you should proceed carefully as allergies could be found in and around these wonderful exotic treasures.

Check with your local grocery outlets to see if they are looking to carry this Amazon gem and if not see if they will look into it. The price will be steep but the experience is well worth it.

Like all new foods take things slow as what is a wonderful part of one persons diet can be the opposite to others. Western countries are being bombarded with new findings from around the world.
