hives from acai berry
by: Debbie Johnson

I have been taking the pure Genisis Acai Berry juice for the past several months, 1oz morning and at nite time. My cholesteral dropped forty points, I was thrilled. But then I too started breaking out in hives, huge ones on my face. Rashes that itched so bad I could hardly stand it. Finally figured out the only thing different was the acai juice I had been taking. Some how after about 2 months of taking it I became allergic to it. As soon as I stopped all the hives and rashed disappered.

Could be allergic to Acai
by: Anonymous

Over the weekend my face broke out (left side only) and neck with hives, along with swollen lumps near my adams apple and behind my left ear. Went to the family doctor and after 4 doctors examing my face and neck, they have no idea what I have. So like any good doctor I'm on antibiotics and valtrex ("in case it's the shingles"). My fried and I had a fuze green tea with "acai" berry on Friday. He said he noticed hive like bumps on the back of his shoulders. Saturday morning I wake up with my throat starting to swell (exterior lump) and hives starting on my face. After 3 days of taking medication I see no change...actually getting worse. Should I see an allergist? I appreciate any feedback.

acai berries
by: jackie bennett

my mother has been taking acai berries for 2 weeks
now and has had an extreme reac5tion to these. she has been put on steroids by her doctor and describes the feeling as having ants crawling over her whole body..she is covered from head to toe in red itchy lumps even on her scalp. she has not been able to sleep and is covered in blood from scratching. she suffers from eczma anyway and has not taken anything else that could of caused this. i have also been taking the acai berries for 2 weeks with no adverse reactions.
worrying that her breathing is very shallow as well..

Acai Berry Add Ons
by: Nathan

I was so depressed when I started having problems when drinking the Acai Berry juice and Purchased. I knew it had to be the berry but I decided to investigate on my own. Well in taking the label apart and really reading the ingredients it turns out the juice I had was so SMALL on the Acai Berry that I had a funny feeling it might be something else. I spoke to my family doctor who endorsed me trying the Berry Juice and he could not tell by the label as everyone has unique allergies conditions to any supplements from time to time. So he had me take a pure Acai Berry.

I tried his experiment. NO problems with the Acai Berry all by itself. I then continued to just eat the berry for 10 days and No allergic reaction. Now Im convinced that it was NOT the Acai Berry but something else within this companies product. For me to get to the bottom of this would be very difficult so for now Im just eating the Acai. No pills no juice just the Berry itself.

A friend has asked me to try another companies Juice Blend with the Acai Berry so I may just to see but I don't know if Im up to it or not.

Now I know it was Acai
by: Anonymous

I have a few allergies to medication, but my only food allergy had been peanuts until now.
I started taking the Acai pills. I was taking them for about 2 weeks. Once morning after a bowl of ceral and finishing a papaya (which I eat fairly regularly.. I live in Hawaii) I started having some itching in my forearm. I then started feeling a little strange and felt tight in my throat. I went into the bathroom and looked in the mirror and had a read rash all over me. I started to think it was the papaya. I had to go to the ER. I forgot to tell the Dr about the Acai pill I had been taking for 2 weeks. He said they only way to know was to try papaya again when someone was around and I had benedryl handy. I waited for months and finally tried papaya with no reaction. I stopped taking the acai after that day as well. I have been eating Papaya ever since no reaction. After reading this I know it was the Acai. Yeah!!! I love papaya.

Food Allergies : Acai Berry
by: Doris, New York

You have to be very careful when trying new foods from different lands. Our bodies are made up of generations of cells that have come in contact with local area foods and drinks. Thus you have to be careful when you introduce a new food or group of foods to your diet.

For all the Allergic stories that are here there are 100's of stories where people are not having reactions. Im glad this site is keeping both sides of the story online for everyone.

Thank you, Planet Berry

Am I allergic to acai
by: Anonymous

I usually have no reactions or allergies to anything except a medication I took once. So when I drank the bottle of SOBE Lifewater with Acai and apple extract, and started itching, I quickly assumed that it was the acai because I've never been allergic to apples. Be careful with the acai. I believe I had a reaction to it.

Acai Allergy
by: Cindy

I started taking acai supplements about 21 days ago and within the past 10 days have broken out with hives three different times. My scalp is very itchy and the palms of my hands are very itchy coupled with a burning sensation. It's very uncomfortable. I've also had hives on my arms and after taking a hot shower, I broke out on my stomach and back. I sunbathed for about 20 minutes and felt like my entire body was on fire! I eat very healthy and am sure it's a reaction to this supplement. I am not prone to allergies and am disappointed that I'm reacting this way! However, I won't be taking this supplement again.

Acai and Allergies
by: Conner

I wonder if this is as big an issue as some would think? Individually I would totally agree but I take the Acai in pill form and in juice blends without any side effect outside of the first 10 days where my stomach was belching.

If the Acai berry was causing massive issues wouldnt the FDA be looking into this?

Acai Has Been A Blessing
by: Tess

Reading your threads (for the most part) I feel so sorry for those of you having negative experiences from the Acai Berry. I have now been on the acai for over 13 months and although it started out with some new stomach gas (which can be expected when you clean out your body) the discomfort was only brief for me.

I have renewed energy, muscle flexibiity and in general just feel better. Most importantly my blood work has improved dramatically. I take the acai berry in a juice formulation which is from a company found here on the planet berry web site.

Best to you and yours,

Tess

Love the Acai
by: Karen Tanne

No allergic reaction here at all. What a shame so many of you have had a bad experience with this jewel of a berry. I have more energy and my joint pain is almost completely gone. After only 4 months on the acai berry juice I am hooked. I did have some stomach gas for the first 30 days but my Distributor warned me ahead of time on this so I was expecting that withe the initial cleansing process the body goes through.

Wish you all could see the great results yourselves. Im sure you will find something out there. Just as all those allergic to peanuts had to change....I suppose.

Allergic to Acai
by: Also Allergic

I have just started taking the Acai Berry pills (2 a day with 16oz. of water)and too have broken out in hives all over my body. Every where except for my face. They are small little bumps that appeaar to be filled with puss. They itch pretty bad and are uncomfortable. I eat very healthy and have NEVER been allergic to anything. These pills are the only thing that I have changed in my diet. They do give me that extra energy but it's not worth the hives :( Good luck to everyone that's not allergic.

Acai or Was It Something Else
by: Peter Schoefield, VA

Thanks for sharing but in each of those drinks there are many other ingredients as well. The acai may be the problem fruit for you as it is just recently being introduced into the Western Cultures. But in most of the drinks I have seen there are blended fruits and preservatives as well.

Take the drink to your family doctor to analyze...

Peter
