Champion Needs to Be Decided on the Field

We do not have a true national champion. We have a champion because a computer is picking what it thinks are the two best teams. In my opinion the two best teams are USC and Florida and they should have a chance to play in a TRUE title game. The only way a TRUE national title game can happen is if a playoff system is implemented. The current system is a joke. The best team(s) do not necessarily get a chance to play in the title game cause they may have slipped up once or twice during the year. Or in the case of USC--they do play in a weak conference which penalizes them but their out of conference schedule is stronger than any SEC team. In addition, remember the New England Patriots last year--16-0 during the season and even though they lost to the Giants--nobody can say they weren't among the top two teams (even though their division was among the worst in the league). USC should not be penalized because other teams in their conference are not great. Penn State for that matter was getting blasted as well. Let's decide things on the field and may the best team emerge. If the other divisions in college can do it, you would think division one can too.
My solution: Keep the bowls but go back to the old system, but junk the BCS title game. (Pac 10 plays Big 10 in the Rose, etc.) The conferences and college presidents want to keep the bowls so we can still do that. After the bowls are done the Elite 8 or Final 4 of college football are selected to have a playoff. The excitement and dollars that this would create would be enormous. We are only talking about a few teams playing a few more games. And think about the good that the extra money can do for the institutions and/or charities.
