Child off to College

by Dave
(New Orleans, LA)

Well August is usually our month for family vacation. Not this year. This year we have two kids in college and one that has moved out of the house and is living for he first time on their own (on campus). What an emotional roller coaster it has been. From the budgeting to the selection of what to pack and bring to the dorm it has been one heck of a final week.

On top of that, we still have no clue on the actual finance process and how it all works. We know the finances are there and will be applied but the online system is way behind the date of payment and now our children are on campus.

We need more help in this area!

Out Of State College Fees
by: Eric Taylor

Well I for one would love to see all children have to go from High School to a local Community College. Four year college fees for in state let alone out of state (my problem presently) are sky rocketing.

We don't have to take this anymore. If we all shift our first two years (just general education stuff anyway) to the local community colleges and then reserve two years worth of 40,000 per semestar fees tucked away (like we do) then this whole thing will take care of itself.

The laws of supply and demand. Take away the demand and the Colleges will have a glut of inventory and small class sizes. They will have to cut back on their programs. Or, just do as I suggest here. Lower your prices now and compete for our hard earned nickels.

College Finances
by: Art Snelndon

I can't believe I read this from you Dave. I have been knee deep in college website hell trying to figure out how all these loans tie together. It's amazing its so darn hard to figure out the finances for college. We should have a very simple process. But no.

All is quiet on the western front
by: Andrea in Memphis, TN

I can certainly relate to that! Our home is very quiet these days. We miss our child but know that this is an experience that will change her life as well as ours. Growing old is never easy and letting go (sort of) is a painful process. It's hard to walk by their empty (but very clean) bedroom!
