Cam Newton Heisman Hoax
by: Cam Lootin Jr

This was sad. Even Cam Newtowns speach was illegal. He stated that he knew his parents were doing things "behind the scene". For crying out loud NCAA and Heisman Committee or what ever they call that body of work wake up.

This kid and his father are dirty. We won't get the whole truth until he is in the NFL and first bonus check is in the bank. Then the tears. The emotional break down and Auburn goes to hell in a hand basket with Coach Gene running for the NFL as well.

The NFL needs to have a contract clause that threatens these cheaters when they get into the NFL and the Truth of their body of work comes out after they depart their Alma Mater....

Cam Newton Is In the NCAA Back Pocket
by: Steve

The NCAA was just made a fool of. From their President who should remove himself from office to this laughable COI which is a group of intimidated lawyers via Paul Dees they should all be ashamed that they represent higher learning via the field of athletics.

For the NCAA President to rule that Cam Newton is eligible to play Football just to protect the REVENUE from CBS on a Saturday afternoon goes against all that was good in College Football.

How can they alter the rules for one player, Cam Newton, who's Reverend Father admitted wrong doing (ala Reggie Bush's Stepfather and an Ex Convict) and then excuse the Son from the existing rules of not only the NCAA but the SEC Conference. How embarrassing is this?

The Lawyer Mill at USC must be smiling. THey now have a clear focus and the Courts of California have to be looking at this as a short course in how NOT to Follow Your Own Rules.

The Fans of College Football should voice their vote here and pile on the NCAA for quitting at doing their job and selectively punishing one School while not others including an entire conference in the SEC.

CAM Newton Is In the NCAA Back Pocket
by: Steve

Post your thoughts to this here. It is now painfully clear that CAM Newton is in the hip pocket of the NCAA. The SEC and ESPN are scared to death of this exposing their obvious cover up. The Newton Family has broken the rules and the evidence on the net is very clear.

Where is the justice? Why isn't the USC President and Athletic Director voicing stern opposition?

Fight On To USC: Note to President Nikias Part 3
by: Steve

Conference games are zero-sum for the conference overall?each game must produce a winner and a loser. With a nine-game conference schedule the best possible record for the Pac-12 Conference is 90-54 (or 62.5%) -- 54-54 in conference, 36-0 out of conference. With an eight-game schedule? 96-48 (or 66.7%) ? 48-48 in conference, 48-0 out of conference. This built-in net 12-game differential wreaks havoc on the BCS rankings for all Pac-12 teams, particularly in the computer rankings that account for one-third of the BCS rankings.

Should USC go 12-0 during the regular season in the Pac-12, whether with an eight-game or nine-game conference schedule, its conference foes will have a 45.5% in-conference record (40-48 or 45-54, respectively). The difference is that this losing record on average consumes 81.8% of the games played by the rest of the Pac-12 teams playing a nine-game schedule, while only 72.7% of these games with an eight-game schedule. This means that a 12-0 USC with a nine-game schedule has an opponent win percentage of 45.5% automatically built into 9.1% more of its opponents? schedule than with an eight-game conference schedule! This mathematical disadvantage is crippling to Pac-12 BCS aspirations.

It?s this simple: a nine-game conference schedule creates an annual institutional barrier for USC or any Pac-12 school from reaching the BCS National Championship game, from the Pac-12 gaining a second BCS Bowl berth or from generating more bowl-eligible teams in the conference?let alone from generating a more lucrative television and bowl tie-in contract that enhances all athletic teams at each university.

The 2008 USC football season serves as a vivid reminder of how detrimental a nine-game conference schedule has been for our program. That year USC finished the regular season with only one loss?the same as BCS title game participants Florida and Oklahoma. How so? USC?s strength of schedule was so badly damaged by these extra six losses incurred by its conference opponents that even if USC had finished the season with every first-place vote in both BCS polls and won each of its 11 victories 100-0, we would have been excluded from the BCS National Championship game (just like 2003-04) because of the computer element of the BCS rankings (which excludes margin of victory) that ranked USC #7 based solely on strength of schedule.

Logic mandates that if USC and the Pac-12 are serious about increasing national exposure, generating revenue, and winning championships, then you and your university president colleagues must support an eight-game conference schedule for Pac-12 competition. Please fight for this important principle in Pac-12 negotiations

Fight On To USC: Note to President Nikias : Part 2
by: Steve

The Pac-12 receives greater exposure, prestige and revenue by placing a team in the BCS National Championship game, by gaining a second BCS berth (worth $4.5 million) and by generating more lucrative bowl tie-ins with more teams eligible and more highly ranked at the end of the season.

In 2009, the SEC had 10 of 12 teams bowl-eligible, even though four teams finished 3-5 in conference play. Each of these four teams finished 4-0 in non-conference play for a 7-5 record, thanks to 14 of these 16 games played at home against weaker competition, instead of a likely extra loss in a ninth conference game.

In 2008, the Pac-10 had only five of 10 teams bowl-eligible. Stanford and Arizona State finished 5-7, but played its ninth conference game on the road, where both teams finished 1-4 during conference play. Substitute that ninth game with a winnable home game, and the Pac-10 would have had seven teams at 6-6 or better.

A ninth conference game creates an earlier conference schedule for the Pac-12 than the eight-game schedule does for the SEC and Big XII ? which will cause Pac-12 teams to incur devastating losses earlier in the year than SEC and Big XII teams still playing non-conference foes at home.

These earlier losses will disadvantage Pac-12 teams? poll rankings, artificially inflate rival conference teams? poll rankings and lessen opportunities for Pac-12 games between ranked opponents later during the season that are crucial for the BCS rankings, which reward these types of games.

Television contract leverage is lost when the Pac-12 offers up fewer games featuring ranked teams (or higher ranked teams) during the season that would attract a national audience in a more lucrative time slot.

Given the rarity of undefeated seasons for USC (three in the past 70 years), playing more ranked opponents later in the season allows for greater opportunity to overcome one loss and climb the polls.

A nine-game conference schedule with four interdivisional games produces a 16.67% greater chance that the conference title game will be a rematch over an eight-game conference schedule with three interdivisional games.

A conference title game rematch will usually either keep the Pac-12 Champion from going to the National Championship game or keep the Pac-12 from having two teams gain BCS berths because of this second inflicted loss.

Fight On To USC: Note to President Nikias : Part 1
by: Steve

Dear President Nikias,

You and your fellow Pac-12 university presidents will have several critical decisions to make in the coming weeks regarding the structure, revenue payouts and divisional alignments that will define the Pac-12, and USC?s future, for years to come. The stated goal of the new Pac-12 will be to enhance the prestige, national exposure, revenue stream and championship opportunities for the conference and its members? athletic programs?particularly football, which pays for the Olympic sports offered at each university.

If the Pac-12 and USC wants to win BCS National Championship games and maximize its long-term revenue opportunities, then you must take strong action to implement an eight-game conference schedule for each Pac-12 team.

The nine-game conference schedule has been a great barrier to USC playing in the BCS National Championship game since its implementation in 2006, and it also has played a crucial role in denying the Pac-10 a second team in the BCS Bowls?and the associated $4.5 million payout for the conference.

The following are financial and strategic reasons to support an eight-game Pac-12 Conference schedule starting in 2011:

An extra six road games a year for Pac-12 teams unnecessarily drains millions of dollars away from Olympic sports, and also deprives the conference of an extra six home games that would generate millions of dollars for these sports, burdening each university?s athletic program?s ability to compete, let alone survive.

The BCS rankings?from both computer and human poll components?heavily downgrade teams for a loss regardless of the level of competition. Therefore, limiting unnecessary losses from Pac-12 teams will lead to higher BCS rankings for more teams and more BCS bowl opportunities.

A ninth conference game guarantees that the Pac-12 will go 6-6 in those games instead of a possible 12-0 should the 12 teams schedule home games against opponents of appropriate merit for each team.

These extra losses hurt Pac-12 chances to place its champion in the BCS National Championship game, to gain a second berth in the BCS Bowls and to maximize the number of teams that become bowl-eligible.

USC Is On The NCAA List
by: Kelli

This school cannot step right or left without a sanction stare. I am not a fan of USC but come on people. This is pretty obvious when it comes to a slanted view of a College Football Program by the NCAA.

My other question is, what is this COI really? Why haven't they attacked other schools that have clearly had more severe infractions than USC and over a long period of time as well? Is this fair? Or has the NCAA stepped in and told Paul Dees and Crew that the Football Program of the NCAA is in jeopardy if they continue to slam the programs as harshly as USC Football has been sanctioned?

The SEC would be shut down folks. I live in Alabama and Im not a happy Tide member right now as we got exposed. However, USC and Alabman as well as Oklahoma have all been slapped hard. What about Florida and 30 Players In trouble under the same God Like Coach Mr Urban Meyer? Why hasn't this been classified as Lack of Institutional Control on the University of Floriday? Perhaps, the NCAA is awaiting Mr. Meyer's announcement to the NFL so they can then penalize the Institution after he and his cornies are gone? Ala Pete Carroll?

We want fair play. We want equal rights to all programs. The only wayt the NCAA comes out of this with any Integrity would be to slam the SEC and several other schools with deep USC like sanctions or reduce the Sanctions on USC to something more traditionally adhered to.

Where is the USC President and Athletic Director in all this? Call them OUT. Why have they just sat back and not issue public statements on their willingness to fight this in a real court of Law as our Nation provides?

Where are the real fans?

The PAC 10
by: Scott Harker

First and foremost, GO SEC, ok now that is out of my head. I am an avid College Football Fan. I love the SEC. Who doesn't. We have the best conference bar none. I do have a lot of respect or shall I say I used to for the PAC 10 or what ever it is morfing itself into with little Utah and gutter sucking Colorado joining to siphen off the Southern California recruits and USC'S EXPENSE.

I actually stayed up and watched the pitiful PAC 10 officials throw another game against a Top Rank Team (USC) vs Stanford. Come on people! This was too obvious The Ref's are in on it and it's all about taking a proud USC down to its knees.

Is this conference crazy? Can you say, Independent USC three times fast? They should leave now. Pay the penalties if there are any and start building a super conference for the elite teams. Ya thats what Im saying,

Picture this:

USC
Texas
LSU
Oklahoma
Florida
Miami

Then sprinkle in their traditional cupcakes like Notre Dame, UCLA, Nebraska etc and we have something special. That game against Stanford was WAY TOO OBVIOUS.

No love for USC. University of Southern California join the ranks of the powerful and step away from your conference now before they strip you of your dignity. They dont want you. They dont deserve you.

Notre Dame Again
by: David

I am finding it very hard to even look at the schedule for my beloved Notre Dame Fighting Irish. After 10 years of hope and being duped I feel this latest chapter will end the same as all others. I want to give the current coaching staff a chance. But I did that with Charlie Weiss and all his hot air got us was to be the laugh of College Football. Notre Dame used to mean something powerful and good to College Football. Now I wish NBC would drop us and spare us all the futility of watching this team like all others recently find a way to lose.

Play Like A Champion? I think not. I love the school. I hate this team now. I don't like the way I feel about the Irish but someone has to be accountable higher up than one coach after another. How the heck do you get beat by a Fake FG in OT? Notre Dame is suppose be smarter than every other school. We brag about it. What about the smarts of the coaches and not being prepared properly. We have now lost to the State Of Michigan Again.

Maybe Notre Dame needs to clean house above of the Coach. Maybe the time is now. Don't put us through another long winter. USC stepped up and got rid of their problem with the AD. Different issues of course but they did it. When will Notre Dame step up to the Honor Bar and fix the WHOLE problem?

if the NCAA wants any credibility how could they put this man, Paul Dee, at the head of a Compliance Group given his track record at Miami University? I am sick watching and listening to this guy rip up the SEC now after he tore apart USC.

But this one may be different. Notre Dame needs to be in the Top 10 NCAA Football programs. We need to be in the BCS and we have earned that right over the decades of dedication to the field and class room.

The heat coming off the practice field has nothing to do with the temperature of the dirt it's about the boys of summer and how this group of Academic Athletes will rise above the past five years of horrible execution (thanks you Charley Weiss) and once again dominate the NCAA College Football program.

Paul Dee & The NCAA
by: Gilbert / Kansas

The NCAA is accountable. They have to answer to the Fans. We can force this to happen. The first step is for them to admit that this circus must stop. Paul Dee is unqualified and obviously on a personal mission for the destruction of a major powerhouse in USC and the self promotion of his former school the Univ of Miami.

What were his qualifications to lead the NCAA COI? He was found guilty of cheating at a Major University in Miami? This provided him the proper credentials to lead the NCAA COI?

Well, lets just let the Fans speak up. Start right here. Send your friends to this location and keep coming back. Don't back down. If the Jayhawk fans can stand up to this so can you.

Tell us what you think right here. Let's get National attention. We know that the ESPN SEC fanbase won't do a thing. They will turn the blame on the Agents and the Pro's. But when USC was under the light they pointed a finger at Lack of Institutional Control.

So, will Paul Dee be up to the task? Will he place the Death penalty on Alabama, Florida, Georgai, North Carolina, South Carolina, etc?

Notre Dame football is important to College Football. But they have to earn the respect of the Fans and Media not try to influence it with their lucrative TV money. This is what Notre Dame football has become. A holly than thou figment of it's own imagination. The actions of coach Charlie Weiss and the Notre Dame crying Irish is embarrassing to the school. He has been blamming the Ref's for his loss to Michigan. Unreal. Like the Ref's called all those 4th quarter long bombs for possession to run the clock down?

Charlie, "run the clock down", take the hint in the first word for crying out loud. RUN. Clock keeps moving. I don't think the Ref's called those plays in your ear did they?

Why not give the Michigan Blue their due. They won. They deserve all the credit in the world. You have your Network station at your beckon call and thats an unfair use of the media. College football wants a big game right out of the gate. They thought they had it in game 2 when the Men Of Troy dismantled the Big 10's Tough Guys from Ohio. Now in the home and away series we will see a strong team from USC with a new QB (Sanchez leaving early) as their only question mark. Of course this is a big question mark but as the Trojans have done so often they are loaded with talented replacements in all positions.

Now lets look at tOSU Buckeyes. Ok, that was long enough. This game has all the makings of a repeat from last years spanking only this time it will be to the embarrassment of the great fans of Ohio. I pity them all. The Trojans will be gunning for this game big time. Gone are the key players for both sides but tOSU looks like another average school this year and nothing like the expectations of past years. The Linebackers that are going to start this year could make us forget the last three years of dominance which is no small feat. This is truly a core of 5-6 deep that will shake up the College Football scene this year.

The only question mark is when will the Freshman Phenom Matt Barkley start? Doubt we will see him in Ohio when the Trojans look to sweep the Buckeyes in their 2 game back to back series. But if they jump on tOSU like last year just maybe we will get a glimpse of the future of the huddle at Troy!

BCS is like Communism
by: Anonymous

Associated Press:

WASHINGTON - A congressman who wants to see college football adopt a playoff system is comparing the Bowl Championship Series to communism.

Republican Rep. Joe Barton of Texas said Friday that efforts to tinker with the BCS are bound to fail. He told a House hearing that the BCS is like communism and can?t be fixed.

Barton has introduced legislation that would prevent the NCAA from labeling a game a national championship unless it?s the outcome of a playoff system.

Aaron Corp Gets The Nod At USC

Sophomore Aaron Corp gets the nod as USC Spring ball comes to an end this Saturday with the Huddle. Big step for the program as they head into the offseason.

Looks like the Fall lineup will look like :

Will Mitch Mustain fight through this and show the heart of a true champion. We believe so. We also believe he can turn this around in the Fall Camp.

The LSU Championship Banner
by: Steve

In answer to your question regarding the LSU Banner on this Forum. We will honor who ever the BCS (I know I know) appoints as the BCS National Champion at the conclusion of the BCS Bowl Championship Game. Thus, although we are violently opposed to the current format (see our Poll at: www.planetberries.com/bcs-playoff.html) we will play ball with the chosen team.

Thus, the current banner is a reflection of last years award to LSU for winning the Big Game. Without a playoff system who knows the "real" champion. Every year we will always have doubt until a legitimate system is in place.

So, here's to LSU for last year. Who's next?

Charlie Steals The Media...
by: Go Irish

Or Did He?

An interesting article about Charlie Weiss from Jason Whitlock...

Here's what Notre Dame football fans don't seem to comprehend:

1. I've never stated that Tyrone Willingham was a great (or even good) coach; 2. I never blasted Notre Dame for firing Tyrone Willingham; 3. My problem with Charlie Weis and Notre Dame is the premature, undeserved lifetime contract he received after proving nothing and the reach-around Notre Dame and Weis received from most of the media during his first season.

Notre Dame fans are having trouble grasping either column. They somehow think that Willingham's failure at Washington justifies giving Weis a record contract at Notre Dame. And they also believe that Willingham's demise nullifies the truths expressed in my previous columns about the Great Weis Hope.

Sorry, Charlie.

Even with the Irish sitting at 5-2, every word in those columns still rings true. Notre Dame and a hefty percentage of the sports media overreacted to Weis' hot start, and Weis' complexion played a role in the overreaction.

As of today, we have little evidence that Weis is a better college football coach than Willingham.

Notre Dame fans are repeating the same mistake they made in 2005 when the school overpaid for Weis. They're turning conceited based on a glossy record compiled against weak competition.

San Diego State, Michigan, Purdue, Stanford and Washington ? ND's victims ? have a combined record of 9-32. Only Stanford, 4-4, has more than two victories.

Bye Bye LSU
by: Jonathan, Whittier

The lights are getting dim and the jello is jiggling the eggs are already cold and the LSU Tigers are sinking fast. No longer the scary Tigers of the SEC they are now a humiliated former SEC leader. They could completely collapse now.

The BCS is starting off with a Bang now that 5-6 weeks are complete. The Alabama Crimson Tide are pretenders and will fall once they face a strong school. Georgia is a good team but clearly not a BCS Champ in the making. USC had their Stanford and will be lucky to win out. They just can't beat the PAC 10 inferior teams and we all have seen this. Best team in College Football every "end of season" that doesn't get into the The Game.

UCLA's investment in slick Rick is showing signs of a death march. What an idiot he was to place that Ad in the LA Times after ONE WIN against a horrible Tennessee Team. He is a cancer for the program and an embarrassment for PAC 10 Football. Recruits should continue to run from this wannabe coach. We predict 2 season and out. He will get desperate again and break another rule or two to compete against USC.

Penn State is the school to watch. They are quietly mowing through their schedule. Of course it is a weak schedule on paper and fact but they look strong right now. Missouri is a joke. Decent QB but a joke. Texas beat an overrated Oklahoma but they DID win "The Game". God forbid Ohio State wins the Big 10 but that would most likely mean a rematch with USC who won't get to the BCS NC this year. How boring will this Rose Bowl be? Slick Rick of UCLA should be running for his next gig. He has never had a first year like this one. In fact, his career from what we could find appeared to be a downward spiral once his recruits would start to work into the program.

So, he benefits from a departing coaches efforts for 18 months then suddenly he is left starting at his 1,2 and 3 Star Rival candidates and NO 4 and 5 Stars are any where on the rosters. This is not a foundation for success in College Football.

The PAC 10 is in for 2-3 years of a one horse pony in USC. Slick Rick of UCLA was the best thing that ever happened to Oregon and USC and perhaps CAL if we ever figure out which team is going to show on any given Sunday.

Slick Rick of UCLA put one big foot in his mouth. He then decided that one foot wasn't enough and took out a full paged ad in the LA Times stating the Monopoly (USC) in Los Angeles was Over. What a loser this guy is. Now I will give him credit for beating down on Tennessee in a game that neither school should have won but to put the program under this measurement?

Clearly the UCLA Bruins are hiding early this Fall as they prepare for yet another long winter. Hibernating for the Bruins is a normal course of season in the past 10 years so this should be easy. Except what will slick Rick try next? All of his programs had good success in their early years which means he benefited from the previous coaching staff's recruits.

But look at his record in the last part of each of the schools he coached at? All down hill. Getting fired and accused of all sorts of bad judgement (Gambling, etc). This is a coach in need of a mentor. Perhaps after he publicly apologizes for all his past and future screw ups Coach Carroll will consider him as a Practice Coach? Think about the potential for the UCLA program then.

The race for the BCS Coaches trophy is going to be awesome this year. i think LSU could break through but their Strength of Schedule outside the SEC (LSU doesn't travel far) is going to hurt them big this year. Too many strong contenders for them to get a sympathy vote in January.

Missouri will have to win out of course and that means a win against OU which could be the number one team today. Not sure USC has played anyone but thats not their fault. They scheduled historically good teams. OSU had 20 returning starters from the BCS whooping by LSU (maybe that was the problem?)

USC v Ohio State Travel Alert
by: Anonymous

By John Walters
NBCSports.com
updated 10:25 a.m. PT, Sun., Sept. 7, 2008

John Walters

Travel Alert: We here at the NBC Sports Meteorological Center feel compelled to issue a bellwether advisory for Big Ten schools traveling to California next weekend. While much of the east and gulf coasts were threatened by hurricanes last Saturday (as was Gainesville, at least for three quarters), the Golden State will produce pockets of high-pressure defenses and avalanches of scoring next weekend.

Ohio State and Wisconsin, we mean you. You are the top two teams in the Big Ten -- or at least were thought to be so prior to the season; Penn State appears to be better, but we will suspend judgement until they engage a worthy opponent outside the Nittany Lions’ den. But you two are a combined 4-0 without having left campus or having played anyone from a BCS conference.

Buckle up, Buckeyes and Badgers, as your nascent undefeated seasons are about to experience a significant degree of turbulence. This coming Saturday Ohio State, fresh off a 26-14 defeat of Ohio (a team that many observers feel is at least the 7th- or 8th-best in the Mid-American Conference, so there), visits Southern California in prime time. Two and a half hours later and roughly 220 miles north, Wisconsin will kick it off at Fresno State, a school that has not hosted a top 10 opponent in seven years (a 44-24 upset win over No. 10 Oregon State in 2001).

USC will Crush da Buckeyes of tOhio State
by: Paul, Woodland Hills CA

What a joke. Even Las Vegas has USC favored by 10.5 points which in an epic battle is unheard of. Weenie or Beanie Wells isn't hurt. Even his Xrays showed that. He doesn't want Rey, Cush, Clay, Taylor and crew getting anywhere near him.

USC will handle the weight of the lines at OSU. That is also their weakness as shown in 2 straight humiliating BCS showings. They are big but they are SLOW.

Speed kills.

The Big Game: tOSU vs USC Sept 13th 2008
by: Neil in Canton

Of epic proportion the game between the USC Trojans and The Ohio State Buckeyes is a game for all the ages. Epic as Jimmy Rome would say. This game has all the pre season make up of a good old fashion defensive struggle.

tOSU should dominate the two lines. Their LB's are equal to the task of the highly media hyped men of Troy but we have the trophy in the middle while they have the undisciplined Rey Rey running wild with no sense of purpose or direction. Vote to tOSU.

Final Score: USC 17 v tOSU 23

LSU is Awfully Quiet
by: David, El Paso

Where is Lester Miles in 2008? No media paying him any attention now that he lost the Michigan HC job? He is probably still trying to get Rich Rodriquez ousted so he can go to his beloved Michigan Wolverines.

But on a serious note, just what are the Tiger Cats of LSU up to this year? Yes they beat the arch rival of Michigan on opening day but heck, who wouldn't if you were a D1 program?

LSU seems to have fallen off the media trail this year which could be the sign of the future for the LSU faithful. This all goes in waves as we have seen with the exception of the Trojans in Los Angeles who seem to reload not rebuild each season. Maybe Slick Rick of UCLA will have something to say about that soon.....Naaaaa he will be in NCAA triple penalty dog house before that ever happens. They beat up Tennessee which is a class 3 SEC school now.

So, LSU fans, Whazzzzzz Up? Come out come out where ever you are.

The 10 BCS teams that load up on cupcakes
by: Jackson, Chicago

LSU ranked 8th in the ESPN rankings of the Top College programs who take on the weakest opponents over time. Quotes from ESPN:

The Tigers, winners of two of the past five BCS national championships, have played just three road nonconference games against BCS teams in the past 10 seasons. They're 26-2 against non-BCS foes over that span, with the losses coming at home against UAB and Houston. You might remember when two of our top 10 bullies squared off in Baton Rouge in 2004. The Tigers, coming off the 2003 BCS national championship, escaped with a 22-21 win over Oregon State when Beavers kicker Alexis Serna missed three extra points.

Florida Kicking A Field Goal
by: Tad in Jacksonville

I am a proud Floridian but last night I was embarrassed by that two bit coach Urban Meyer. He kicks a field goal with 20 seconds left and calls himself a College Football Coach? The University should apologize to Miami and kick his butt out on the street now. He has been one slick ride after another down there. If he didn't have Tebow (who will be a bust in College ala Vince Young) Urban would be interviewing in a D 2 school today.

I vote to get him out of the State of Florida and restore pride and respect to College Football and our proud Universities now.

Stunned and surprised but from what Im hearing this loss today was not all that surprising to those that understood the rivalry. I cannot say enough about how much fun College Football is. I only hope it keeps its image as-is.

West Virginia was talking smack all week in the chat rooms. Wow, this has to really set that program back a few yards. So, will USC maintain #1 since they didn't play? Should they? Why would they be penalized for NOT playing. Oh, and why do they have a bye after only one game? Whats that all about.

Notre Dame is not back. They looked horrible for 3 quarters against a team that lost to CAL Poly the week earlier. What a sham.

Notre Dame was lucky they were at home and had their imported referee's too boot. That call on the Fumble was bush. He was down. In fact, as their own announcer stated the ball had crossed the plain of the line. Touchdown San Diego State Aztecs.

Notre Dame is horrible. If I was USC I would see to it that Charlie Weiss contract is extended another 10 years. He is gold to the Trojans of USC.

tOSU is doomed
by: Rob in Canton

Well, at least we are attempting to figure out what type of team we have before our automatic berth to the BCS National Championship game. This year we have a death march early in the season with a duel in Los Angeles with the vaunted USC dynasty.

On the one hand, we will know what we have this year before the Big 10 puts our team into sleep mode and then we get whipped by the SEC or PAC 10 in a game that matters. Heck, I would even like us to play Notre Dame every year.

Come on Buckeye Nation! Fight for a real schedule. So what if we start off slow. We will gain over time. USC plays anyone anywhere any time. That's why they have that swagger. That's why they get our Recruits to come to La La land.

If the Big 10 and The Ohio State University want respect then let's play a tough schedule out of conference. No more whimps. No more patsy games. Im sick of it. Where is Woody Hayes when we need him.

Go Buckeyes. Duck and cover when you get to Los Angeles on September 13th. USC fans, you have the team of the Century this year. That was scary last week in Virginia.

All OSU fans unite and send letters to our vested coach and get him to schedule all PAC 10 and SEC out of conference. Enough already. We deserve more. We deserve the best. We are Buckeyes. Don't flame us Trojans. Show us some class. Please consider the second string midway through the second half. We appreciate it.

Make no mistake. The Bulldogs of Georgia will be in the big game in January. No one has the speed or class of this team. LSU will be lucky to win 8 games. Oh, I forgot, they have 8 home games!

What a joke. Georgia undefeated and unscathed. I hope we get that LA Team as they are the only team on paper that looks to have our depth and speed but we will stomp them as well. They are in our cross hairs.

USC QB Competition
by: Clay in Los Angeles

When is the last time USC did not know who the QB was really going to be? The answer is Matt Lineart. He was actually not projected to take over the job after Carson Palmer left. Matt Cassell had the job to lose and Matt took advantage of Spring and Summer opportunities and won the battle that extended the QB dominance in College Football we have seen from USC over the past few years or shall we just say DECADE!

Now we have Mitch Mustain battling Mark Sanchez and this could well be a similar ending to the past where the heir apparent loses to the younger and very capable Mustain. Had Sanchez won that Oregon game perhaps we are not writing this. He didn't lose that game it was a team collapse although thats harsh as the Stanford loss was truly the Team Collapse on all sides of hte ball and coaching staff.

My projection is that Pete Carroll gives the early nod to Sanchez as he has the years of studying the program. But this will be as hard a decision come the Fall as any in the past for Mr. Carroll and staff.

Mustain is a winner as is Sanchez. May the best man win.

Had to drop that in there one more time and I live far closer to the Bills than the world champs. NY football has never been so good as it is right now. As for College Football it is truly in need of a playoff system.

They could do a January Madness so easily. This would bring in much more money than they are seeing now and they could take the Top 8 Bowl Games and use them as Round One!

If they had this, then LSU would have had a much more challenging run to the latest title game where OSU played like the OSU Beavers not the Buckeyes. Of course, now that they have shown their metal two years in a row maybe the Buckeyes should let the OSU Beavers play for them next time.

We all hear about USC this and USC that but from my vantage point they screwed up big time by letting patsy Stanford ruin their rise to the top. The way they finished the season they were one of the top 3-4 schools. Georgia was hard to figure given their low key season (IMHO) but they have an ax to grind this year!

Predicated of course on the biggest flop and then turnaround in teh history of the sport. Not in our life time. I wish we could just get NBC and the school to work out a settlement with the Weiss Trust fund and get on with the real building of this program.

Notre Dame is by far the greatest football program of all time. Nothing compares. We should not settle for the likes of this guy. He is a Bronx big mouth with NO real credentials for the head coaching position of Americas most treasured post in CFB.

Charley has no dignity and is all about the Weiss foundation so I suppose we are stuck with him. On a positive note, he is a great family man and for that we have a little to adhere to with this sour legacy. He is a good man when it comes to his family. He should be paying the school to coach. This guy is a ego maniac and is harboring an average capability with a great run of athletes. But last year showed he has a thread of wins that could have gone disasterous.

Now Im sure the Tiger Nation will pounce on this as he DID win the Trophy but he is not the type of coaching talent for an overall program that needs discipline right away.

In my opinion, LSU will be fighting to even make it to their conference championship this year. The SEC is not as strong as past years but some of our middle of the road schools can now play on even terms with the Tigers.

Great Hosts LSU Fans
by: Jim Harris

Every school has a percentage of "ugly fans" for sure. The percentage
moves annually based on recent success, past failures, perception in the
national media, average IQ scores and other factors.

I accept OSU's percentage and do my best to overcome the factor when
possible. I will self-assess the percentage somewhere between 5-10%. One
difference tends to be pure enthusiasm and pride for the school. Typically
it is not mean-spirited and directed at another school or fan (except for
Michigan, which is also mostly good natured).

What I saw after the game was exactly what others prepared me for in that
situation. LSU has a very good team that is loaded with Sunday players and
played well at home. To the winner goes the spoils and I would expect
drunken exuberance. I'll assess the LSU percentage of ugly fans at a
healthy 20%. Once again there is a difference between celebrating your
victory and rubbing it in the face of the loser. I actually felt I showed
great restraint (outside of one interaction where it was needed) and felt
obligated to walk down the middle of Bourbon alone and take the lumps for
Buckeye Nation. I won't use all generalizations as I met many LSU fans
that were not that way at all, but as usual the bad actors spoil the
perception. Things will turn as they always do. It may turn quicker than
they would like for LSU now that they have locked up their fearless leader
for the next decade.

We'll be there next year if you can make it.

I believe we will challenge Cal and USC next year. Oregon is one and done. Oregon State is hard to judge right now but is getting stronger every month. UCLA well lets not go there as they are a mess and just hired a gambling jukie in Slick Rick so that will explode soon.

USC is without a proven QB has lost a ton on the D Line and the WR's are average at best. This is the year the PAC 10 can crown a new champion!
