Desalination Plants

by Daniel Sims
(Encino, CA)

It occured to me that if the global warming theories are accurate then the oceans will rise. At the same time we are seeing enormous drought conditions across the globe. Forgive me for being simple minded but if we have rising oceans and delpleted fresh water reserves why not solve both problems.

Wouldn't desalination plants take Salt water (which is plentiful and rising) and convert to drinking water or at the very least irrigation water? So, if that is even close to being accurate would not one solve the other?

Daniel

Coastal States Desalination Plans
by: Greg in Michigan

We hear all about border protection and the threats to our home land but I think Water is our true enemy. We could easily end up like the Middle East with a desert for a front lawn. But is there an answer to both the drought and global warming dare I ask?

If global warming is causing the seas to rise and thus threaten the costal states and some of these very states are also in different levels of a multi year drought why not solve to problems?

First you build the desallinization plants to help solve the water shortage and surging population. Then you pump the sea level down by using the new found drinking water to back fill the reserves and perhaps mainstream the infrastructure. Seems rather logical to me!

California Drought
by: Thomas Wright, Nevada

Nevada can no longer sit back and do nothing. We need to force California to build these desalination plants off their coast now. Our population is at risk and its sooner than we think. Las Vegas and for that matter most of Nevada is dry to semi arid. This is not condusive to sharing precious resources like water.

The state of Nevada should demand more effort from the state of California and now. They have plenty of water in the ocean and last time I looked we are predicting rising ocean seas.

Wouldn't this help reduce the rising seas? Hmmm.....

Desalinization and global warming
by: Kip Starling

Wow I never thought about the resolution to global warming and rising sea water as it relates to the drought conditions across the globe. This is incredible thinking. If every nation started pumping the salt water through desalinization plants then the droughts would be eased and the rising sea water (perhaps) could be slowed down.

This is an amazing thought process.

Science looking into this? Al Gore? What do you think?
