Honestly?

by Macy
(Texas)

those rules for the most part, weren't bad.
my mom always interrupts me when I'm say something. she maybe thinking i mean one thing, but its really another, and if she would have let me finished we probably would have seen eye to eye on the particular subject.

Jumping to conclusions
by: Mary

Macy, I feel your pain. Though I'm a mom of teens now, when I was a teen, my dad would not only interrupt me, he would assume the worst!

We (my mom, sister and I) used to tell him that he got all of his exercise jumping to conclusions.

Finally, it took my mother stepping in and telling him that he was ruining our relationship to get him to hush long enough for me to have my say. What a relief that was.

I'm sure I've interrupted my own children from time to time, but I do try to pay them the same courtesies I want them to pay to me. Including hearing me out before responding.

Up Front With Mom and Dad
by: Donnie in Maine

I agree too. I think kids need to be open minded. Heck, Im only now getting to understand all of this now. Give and take is the way. Keep an open mind and never shut anyone down based on their needs or ideas. That's when trouble starts and no one is smiling at the dinner table.
