Hybrid Cars Take Off

Hybrid cars are mounting a great movement across the United States and the globe. In order for hybrid cars to truly make an impact we must all make decisions on our future buying needs. Our buying patterns will influence the manufacturers of the cars to continue pouring more investment into better technologies and thus a Green Planet! Everyone plays their part in the big picture.

The chicken and egg is alive and well on this topic as the car makers all want to see that if they build it we will come. We want to make sure we have a quality built product and thus are not regretting our buying decision in the first year or two. The big automakers are all competing for ad space which is a good trend to see. The Japanese makers are, in most opinions, leading the field when it comes to the power plants and thus the batteries being designed and delivered.

One of the frequent questions that comes up by the buying public is the replacement cost of the batteries. This is a double edge sword in our opinion. It impacts the intial buyer of course but it really impacts the lending institutions that seek Lease and long term financing for vehicles. The aftermarket, secondary sale, will be much more difficult if a stated batteries life is only 7 years and its in year six of its life on resale.

Honda CIVIC Hybrid

Let’s take a look at where Honda has come from and gone with the 2006 Hybrid Civic. Its never easy leading the pack in a market so unsure of itself. As you hear quite often these days “it ain’t easy being green.” Likewise, choosing a high-mileage Honda hybrid hasn’t made it any easier to go green. In order to get the care eficent and road worthy space extra space was not a high priority. If you really wanted your community to know that you cared about the environment, the sleek but strange Honda Insight two-seater proclaimed your green leanings to the world, but lacked power and interior space unless of course you were under six feet tall and not too wide in the hips. Then there was the Civic Hybrid, which looked pretty much like the standard Civic sedan, keeping the owner’s activism a secret. But, the Civic’s added room for passengers and cargo, along with enough power to cruise all the way to Vegas with the air conditioning blasting, was the trade-off for the Civic Hybrid’s anonymity. Welcome to passive acceptance from the buying public. For without them the Hybrid future was doomed.

For 2006, Honda makes it easier being green. The Honda Civic Hybrid was completely redesigned with a sleek new styling, a stronger and more fuel-efficient powertrain, increased interior space, and thakfully a much more roomier trunk. It still looks too much like a regular Civic sedan, and it doesn’t feature the handy utility of the Toyota Prius’s folding rear seats and hatchback configuration, but for the proice of about $21,500 (on average) and with real-world fuel economy in the high 40s, it might be worth getting out of line at the local Toyota dealer and checking out the latest high-mileage car from Honda. We believe the more we promote of the different manufacturing lines the better for our Green starved Planet in the long run

We will not comprimse and overy hype but if we truly see a good hybrid product we will comment and post our views!
