You could look at Utah at the beginning of the season and tell them that no matter what they do this season, they have no chance at winning a National Championship.

That alone, is wrong and is happening to many teams every year. The heart of American sports is competition and the BCS takes the competition out of the sport. You could make a traditional sport even more traditional by creating more rivalries every year because you know that many teams will play each other repeatedly in the playoffs. The BCS is not American.
