ONLY FAIR SYSTEM
I favor a palyoff because it is, quite simply, the only fair way to determine a national champion in a sport. That is why a playoff is used to determine a champion in every other sport in the world. And I do not believe that one loss should disqualify a team from any shot at a championship. We cannot demand perfection--even the best will have a bad game once in awhile.
The argument that a playoff would diminish regular season games or injure college FB is ridiculous.
UNder an 8-team playoff format, two losses in the regular season means you are probably out of it. Hence, regular-season games remain critically important to a team's NC prospects. Indeed, I would argue that for many teams, being able to remain in the race with one loss will increase excitement at many late-season games. It is like watching bubble teams play before Selection Sunday in basketball--you are jockeying for position and trying to get into the top 8.
The money to be generated from a playoff would be phenomenal. The networks would pay a billion or more for the broadcast rights alone, not to emntion ticket sales, paraphernalia, radio rights, etc.
