Forecast : Sea Level Rising Fast

Shrinking Coastline of Greenland

Ten years ago people didn't give the topic of sea level rising a second glance. Today, they are approaching near panic with respect to their resort towns, New Yorks Financial district, fresh water contamination from sea level risings into the fresh water supplies. Scientist today are now longer talking about if it happens. Today they are substituting the word if with the word when.

Our ice packs are slowly dismantling to the sea. Thus the sea level will continue to rise and over the next 100-150 years we will see erosions pace pick up dramatically. Those effected most will be coastal towns and islands like Hawaii (as an example). With global warming it is unfortuante that until something catastrophic actually occurs the population is generally not as concerned.

This could change dramatically when we shift our focus on say Florida and the rising sea level begins to intrude on their precious and sparse (as compared to their population needs) fresh water tables. The wells in Florida could quickly become contaminated with salt from the rising sea. This would be a disaster not seen since in millions of years from a sea level perspective.

Melting Arctic Glacier So, we present an interesting overview of a very serious problem. Do you believe it's real? Are you part of the population that doesn't care because you are not going to be around in 100-150 years to see all these gloomy forecasts? Well, that will be part of the overall success or failure when it comes to writing the history books. We could all be infamous one way or another. Did we do all that we could do to make a difference? Is it too late as some would suggest?

The steps we take today, not tomorrow, will utlimately define how the earth is able to cope with this pending crisis. Everything we do in our own space will impact this outcome. This isn't about Governments making sweeping changes. This is about each individual doing something Green in their decision making process. It's truly up to all of us now.

Possible Solutions

Very hypothetical of course but if something is rising in volume how do you slow it down or neutralize it? You release volume of course. So, if we have rising sea levels and at the same time we have drought and famine on a global basis is there not a message in this bottle?

Ok, we are thinking way out of the box here. But the oceans cover the globe on a percentage basis far greater than land. So the oceans are here to stay. Islands are forming but suffice to say the oceans will remain the dominant barrons of the earth.

So, the oceans touch every part of the land masses and thus provide a growing staple of available water albeit salt water. Ahhh, now you are seeing the point of this long winded idea.

What if we, as partner nations, invest in a desalination solution on a global basis. Think of this as the Answer to more than just the sea level problem. This could be ingenius to solve to catastrophic problems with one solution. Installing global desalination plants along all the major coastlines would create an artifically man made solution to the drought and the rising sea levels.

Food for thought? Can we re-think the problem to the sea level rising forecast?
