Steroid Effects On Children

Steroids effects on our children are becoming tightly linked through our sports and recreation programs. This is not to say that all programs promote and participate in this venue but the facts are starting to come out and more and more children from Middle School to High School age are experimenting with steroids.

We can look the other way as a society or we can do what some of the professional sports leagues have taken on. Educating the victims, yes the victims. Athletes at all levels suffer from the kid next store or the top ranked individual they must target to replace. Pro sports teams are moving in an educational training direction and our schools can benefit from lessons learned here to implement similar programs perhaps. Start administering education in the classroom. Think about it, if we took 15 minutes of each gym period for our children and discussed a topic like the effects of steroids on the body we might just turn this category of a nightmare into a success story.

Our children, thanks in large part to the 24 hour media society we now live in, are constantly reminded of the polished professional athlete. We market to them constantly as we show off the top performing individuals and colleges. In my area we even promote the local area High School Sports on their own television show. So the kids are in constant reminder of who the best athletes are and how this one and that one are going to USC, CAL, Ohio State etc. There is a price to pay here folks and we can do something about it.

Education is the answer. If we design this into our systems of teaching at a young age we can turn this addiction around. We have proof by the way. With the invention of the automobile we learned about needing seatbelts. How? Because cars move at a rapid pace and tend to collide, at times, with other objects. People were getting hurt and dying in some cases. So we engineered a restraint system. But think back to the 60’s through the late 80’s. No one was using them even after they were put in all cars.

They were just an inconvenience to those generations that grew up without them. Then we started taking the message to the elementary schools. Now the first people to click in are the kids. Of course we solved the adult problem by enforcing laws but our kids do click in as a force of habit not reminder. The same can be done for the negative effects of steroids on the body. It may look good short term and might even get a Division One College offer but at what price to your overall health?

Our recreational sports programs should also take stock in their teaching techniques as well. Most of these programs is all volunteer as you know so it's more problematic getting the message out here. Not impossible to those that are innovative and take the time to leverage the success of programs already implementing a process of communication and training. It takes everyone to make this work.

Parents should feel very comfortable talking to their children about this one. It's no different than drugs and the impact we see all to often. Steroids hide behind this thin layer of legitimacy because if properly administered steroids do provide support for patients in need. Again there is a time and a place for most legitimate products and solutions.

If you truly need supplements and in most cases the all natural supplements are a good addition to anyone’s daily food intake then do your homework. Research the companies on the net and working with your professional physician or dietician plan a well balanced program for health and wellness. Companies like Mona Vie International are making great strides in providing a natural supplement made of 19 fruits lead in formulation by the acai berry.

There is tremendous excitement around this berry from the Amazon and daily we hear of new results from people all over the globe being introduced to the acai berry as a great alternative to your daily health needs.

But don’t stop there. Build a daily exercise and fitness program. If you follow all of these basic guidelines you will see, over time, that your body will respond and your health and wellness will be on a proper track towards an overall improved lifestyle.

Athletes In The News

Our athletes are some of the greatest conditioned human beings on the planet. Not just in America but the world. However, the issue of steroids has tainted their being. Now we all wonder whether or not they "cheated" their fans their loved one's and the very sports they represent by using artificial drugs to enhance their performance.

So, why this topic now? Our children from the K-12 program all the way through college see this as the means to the end goals. Stardom is shown to them each and every day. As we write this there is one athlete, Barry Bonds, who is now 1 home run away from tying Hank Aaron's 30+ year old record.

Is it fair? Ah, here in lies the problem In America, you are innocent until proven guilty. No court has convicted Barry Bonds of this crime and thus the media is judge and jury. But, the very story or circus act as most are refering to it, is cause enough to work in reverse for the fight against steroids.

There are many who believe he is guilty. Some have claimed they have proof. But noting has been proven and Bonds remains stead fast in his position of innocence. Our children see this massive athlete who at his age should be on the downside yet incredbily most teams won't even pitch to him becaus of his threat to hit the ball out of the park (so to speak) and change the game. Tribute or mask? You be the judge. Meanwhile our children see steroids all around this news story and wonder. Is it ok?

Media Responsibility

Say what we want about the Media but in the case of Steroid abuse they are helping. On the one hand they indirectly promote the use of steroids everytime a young child see's one of their super stars on TV with their newly formed muscle structure seemingly out of nowhere.

But in recent times, with the new focus and hope that we will rid our athletic sports of this disease (greed) and destruction the Media is now on the fix side of the equation by reporting the damage and isolating the tear down and destruction mis use of Steroids is causing with our children and our adult athletes.

It's never enough. So we must be viligent and non-stop in the pursuit of 100% stoppage of the growth of illegal steroid use among our sports and recreation (Wrestling as an example). Never accept the look and appeal of a sculpted performer as an excuse to indulge in a quick fix from illegal steroid use. Go the true and tried method of fitness and exercise with guided approaches and legitimate trainers if one can be afforded.
