India's Tata Motors
On Thursday January 10th 2008 India's Tata Motors unveiled what many are saying could jeopardize and already fragile air quality in India and far reaching geographic zones. The concept of the car is to be applauded. A car for under $3,000 means more people can take advantage of being mobile. But, environmentalists are very concerned that when you have a product like this (polluting transport) combined with a low price and a willing market (drivers)we could see the fight against pollution severely hampered if not destroyed.
India and Tata Motors must understand the problem here. For a nation growing so fast and then of course we look at China with exactly the same challenges we could tip the air quality in such a negative direction that the fall out could change the life styles of all people of the planet.
If you have any concerns in this area voice them now. The concept of a cheap means of transportation is applauded. But why didn't they create a Non Polluting vehicle?
The technology to mass produce a vehicle is available and we all know this. The efforts underway in the USA and Europe as well as Japan suggest we are getting close to non polluting transports. Recent setbacks with the California Hydrogen plan are alarming but can be turned around. We need the infrastructure built so the buying public can feel secure in getting to the refueling stations without being stranded. This is emotional of course but practical from a marketing perspective.
We believe that Tata Mortors of India has taken advantage of a situation that could lead to adverse results and we are talking in the next few years not decades. India's air is so bad now that this could put their health and wellness on the verge of collapse.
What are your thoughts on Tata Motors?
Tata Motors of India is attempting to put a low cost gas powered vehicle into the hands of everyone. Why gas powered? Why in an area so contaminated and air polluted would anyone want to do this? Why not electric? Thoughts?

Ford Sells Jaguar and Land Rover
Fresh out of Detroit - The Ford Motor Co. is dumping its top of the line Jaguar and Land Rover units to India’s Tata Motors Ltd. in a deal that will provide the floundering U.S. automaker approximately $1.7 billion — or to snub their nose in it, roughly a third of the price Ford paid for the two luxury brands.
The deal announced Wednesday will expand the Indian carmaker’s reach around the globe which comes at a time when Tata just released their peanut sized car for the masses. Quite the leap in their arsenal. This announced agreement had been in the works for months as cash-strapped Ford sought money to fund its turnaround plan. Quite frankly, these two car units were not a big seller and never achieved the much anticapted lift that the American manufacturer needed.
