To Decide the True Champion on the Field

I have a simple playoff scenario that would work well for everyone. We do not need a plus one or plus 2 after he bowl season. We can hold a short playoff before the bowls begin. For a 4 team playoff, you would have the opening game in early December. If college teams start the season a week earlier or eliminate one or two byes during the season you can accomplish this. Lets say we require that teams finish their regular season by late November(say Nov. 23). Most teams do this anyway. You then can hold conference championship games the following week(say round Nov. 30.). Then you can have a playoff game for the top 4 teams in the nation on either Dec. 6 or 12. By the way, that game could be held 1 to 3 weeks earlier than Dec. 6 or 12 if teams eliminate a bye or two and or start the season by aug 25th or so. I would suggest eliminating one bye from the season. If you did that, the first playoff game would be held on Nov. 30 or so. If it was an 8 team playoff, this would allow for another game on Dec. 6th or 13th. Like I said that game could be a week earlier if teams started the season one week earlier or they could schedule one less game per year as well. Back to the 4 team playoff. Lets say No. 1 plays No. 4 on and No. 2 plays No. 3 on Dec. 6. Lets say that 1 beats 4 and 3 beats 2. The result would be that those 2 top teams would go to the BCS National Championship Game. The
2 losers could go to another BCS game or just another big bowl on Jan. 1. I suggest that they be allowed to go to the second best BCS game, but others might feel that since they just lost, they must go to a lower bowl. Bottom line is that they will both go to a bowl game. All the other bowls will still happen the they always happen. The other top rated teams will still go to BCS bowl games and so forth. We can do this for 8 teams, but does anyone ever think that the number 7 or 8 team will end up being the best team in the country. Usually, by the end of the season, there are only 2 to 4 teams that are really playing good ball. Very rarely does the 7th or 8th rated team think that they are getting raw deal. I still think that an 8 team playoff could work, but I don't know if it is necessary. But teams like, 2003 USC, 2004 Auburn, 2000 Miami and so forth who had great seasons in the past would have received a chance to prove themselves under this system. We do not really need the BCS rating system either. it could simply be the combination of the the top 4 or 8 teams in the writers and coaches polls combined that determines how teams are ranked. There is more to it than this, but this is my general idea. And notice that we do get a true champion in this way. We get a true champion without upsetting the colleges administrators, without having a playoff during the spring semester of school, and without upsetting the bowl system.
